We have looked at plenty of great BMW vehicles in recent blogs, and we will be reviewing other models from the manufacturing giant in the coming weeks. But today, we will be taking a slightly different approach by focusing our attention on a BMW car of the future, one that could be the next impact player for BMW in the market: the i5.
Announced back in 2017, the BMW i5 is said to be the next stage of the company’s strategy for electrical-based driving, as a part of its i Vision Dynamics team. It is a very ambitious vehicle, one that sets the bar higher for what electric cars are able to achieve as part of their functionality. The plan is for the i5 to go from 0-62 miles per hour in just 4 seconds, making it faster than ever to reach top-level speeds, all while conserving the electrical power that comes from either a rapid or a fast charge.
Speaking of which, the i5 will be able to reach a top speed of 120 miles per hour, again reaching a performance level that leaves other market-leading electrical vehicles in the shade. Not only that, but the car’s zero-emission range target is set to be an outstanding 372 miles. To put that figure into perspective, many of the top electric cars today tend to deem the 300-mile mark as their maximum range, and that alone is an impressive number. So 372 is a truly high watermark, one that could change the game of what electric cars will be capable of.
As for when it will reach the market: production has been under way for some time now, and though we have seen conceptual images and videos, the plan is for the i5 to become available by 2021, so two years from now. One can expect to see the first model of the i5 at major automotive shows sometime next year, and given the plans set out for this vehicle, it’s likely that the i5 will generate a tremendous amount of interest when those in the industry first get to lay their eyes on it. If you are a fan of BMW, or even a fan of electric cars, it is definitely worth looking out for any news on the i5, because it’s likely to be a hugely-successful and highly-popular electrical vehicle once it finally becomes available for motorists.
